Frequently Asked Questions

  • Where Is The Ronald McDonald House Located?

We are located at 550 Mickle Blvd. (aka Martin Luther King Blvd.), in Camden, New Jersey. We are located next to Cooper University Hospital and blocks away from the Camden Waterfront, the Adventure Aquarium and the Camden Children’s Garden.

  • Who Can Stay At The Ronald McDonald House?

Families with a child 21 years or younger treated at an area medical facility, and who have been referred to RMHSNJ by a social worker or another medical provider.

  • How Do We Get There?

Many families fly into Philadelphia International Airport and rent vehicles or take taxis to the House. If taking public transportation, we are located across from the Walter Rand Transportation Center, a hub for NJ transit buses, PATCO Speedline and a stop for the NJ Transit Riverline.

  • How Far In Advance Should We Request A Room?

Since we do not take room reservations, only room requests, it is wise to make a request as soon as you know the date of your appointment or surgery. Then call two days before your actual arrival to confirm that you still need the room and check what the availability looks like for your date.

  • If A Room Is Not Available On The Date Of Arrival, What Can We Do?

We try to accommodate all families on their dates of arrival, but sometimes we cannot. There are other alternatives for families if RMHSNJ does not have a room available.

    • Host for Hospitals
    • Kolbe Fund
    • Local Hotels (discounted rates)
  • Should I Call Everyday To Check On Room Availability?

You must call 2 days in advance, house occupancy changes daily.

You will be notified when a room becomes available. If you no longer need a room or made alternative plans, please contact the House Manager so we can remove your name from our wait list.

  • Is There Parking At The House?

Yes, RMHSNJ is a gated property that requires a key for access into the lot. The key is provided at check-in.

  • Are There Bathrooms In The Rooms?

Yes, every room has its own private bathroom, furnished with towels and bath mats. Of the 25 bedrooms, three are handicapped accessible, with a roll-in shower.

  • Is There Free Wi-Fi?

Yes, Wi-Fi is available, free of charge for all RMHSNJ families.

  • What Time Should We Get There?

The House operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The offices are open daily between 8 am and 9 pm. We ask families to check-in no later than 8:30 pm and checkout by 11:00 am.

  • How Much Does It Cost?

Families are asked to make a contribution of $15 per night.

  • How Many Family Members Can Stay?

RMHSNJ has bedrooms of varying sizes and configurations. Our rooms have either one queen and two twin beds, or two queen beds. A family may occupy only one bedroom, regardless of the number of members in a family but this number is restricted. The number of people who may occupy bedroom is equal to the number of sleep spaces in that room, which is usually 4 adults.

  • Are There Cribs In The Rooms? Pack-And-Plays?

Several rooms have cribs and pack-and-plays may be requested at the House Manager’s office.

  • Should We Bring Our Own Linens?

While some families choose to bring their own linens, each room is outfitted with the necessary sheets, blankets and towels for a good night’s rest. There are two laundry rooms with washers, dryers, and detergent that are available to the families free of charge.

  • Are Meals Provided?

Volunteer groups provide dinner for the families each night between 5 – 6 pm. On the weekends, breakfast and dinner are provided. We have a stocked pantry in the kitchen with many ready to go breakfast and lunch items that may be prepared by families any time of the day.

RMHSNJ requires a minimum of two hospital visits per week for children being treated as outpatient.

  • Can I Arrive Before Treatment Begins Or Stay Later?

Our families can check-in the day before their child’s scheduled appointment or treatment. We cannot take arrivals more than 24 hours in advance. Once a child is discharged, families must check-out within 24 hours.
